Road trip from hell...

This is a repost from my friend Cragar the Viking... [He was the driver]

"We finally made it back home... 18H40M later. Horrible weather conditions, throughout. Our story...We left our B&B at 8:17 AM on Sunday morning. Heading south, Highway 97 went from bare, to wet, to suddenly black ice within minutes this morning. We reached the crest of a hill, approximately 56 miles south of Prince George, when the car spun out of control, donuted twice, and landed into a deep snowbank/ ditch. Our saving grace may have been that the second my tires hit the snow on the side of the road, I was able to maneuver the vehicle just enough to not land in the ditch front-first or flip. My #1 objective was to try to make sure my passengers (wife and good friend) could avoid harm. The tow-truck operator later confirmed that last-second adjustment helped keep us, and the car, from major injuries. We basically slid down the snowbank at an angle. The three of us were unharmed. I could not open my driver's side door, because three feet of snow was pressed against it, so I had to climb out the passenger's side.

Being a true fan at heart, Mizzle instantly said upon landing, "We won't be making the Vancouver-Chilliwack game."

A truck passed by about a minute later, and took us 1-1/2 miles back north to a general store (located just south of Hixon). Neat place, by the way. The owner called for a tow truck to come, but then the dispatcher called him back about 30 minutes later saying that it was going to be a while. Apparently, several head-on collisions happened further south along the highway, as well as approximately a dozen automobiles in ditches in the 23-mile stretch between the general store and Quesnel (to the south)... Our accident may have been a blessing in disguise, because we were told we would have been at those places the times of the accidents and collisions. The highway was also temporarily closed, as a result of the collisions, wipe-outs, and black ice problems. After several telephone calls by the general store owner and probably 2-3 hours of waiting, we finally got word back that a tow truck was on its way.

I went with the tow truck operator, Dustin (from Quesnel). When we arrived at the car, a RCMP showed up. "S**t!!!" I thought to myself as tickets flashed in my mind scape. The police officer looked at the car, checked my license plates, then asked Dustin if he needed assistance (to which Dustin answered "no"), and then went on his way without even talking with me. Apparently, there were so many accidents due to the weather that the RCMP were sent only/mainly for backup assistance. The tow truck operator told me there was probably no way to truly avoid the accident happening, outside of not driving on the road at all. Towing my car out of the ditch was VERY reasonably priced... $105 (CAD). We heard another local tow truck operator charges something like $280 (CAD) per hour. My car had relatively little damage, considering the circumstances and the deep ditch drop. No visible outer/body damage, until his tow chain popped my passenger's side of the front bumper out by damaging the mud-protector behind it while hoisting. The undercarriage is a different story.

The thin metal plate that acts as heat protection between the tailpipe and fuel tank was severely damaged and dragging on the ground. It is also possible the exhaust pipe might be adversely bent and/or have a hole in it. The front-wheel drive alignment might be slightly off, as well. And there are some weird noises, possibly from the things already mentioned. I'm going to have things checked out further on Monday... At least it's my day off work. After getting the car back on the road... which was only wet by this time because it was midday and a balmy 35-degrees... I drove up the road to the general store, picked up my two road trip companions, and we headed south on our way. The metal plate, mentioned earlier, was dragging underneath the car. I wanted to stop at an auto body shop in Quesnel to have someone look at it but, being Sunday in Canada, most (all!!!) such businesses were closed. EVERY person stopped what they were doing to look at our car as we drove by, because the sound of the screeching metal rubbing the ground was so intense. We then stopped in Walmart to grab some tools, hoping bend the metal plate off the ground ourselves, when we noticed Walmart's "Tire & Lube Express" shop was actually open. The shop manager acknowledged such a broken part wasn't the shop's forte, but he agreed to take a look and do the best he could to resolve the issue. A while later, the manager and his co-worker somehow chained the metal plate up, because the bolts/hole had been ripped out and no longer usable (or at least not fixable at Walmart). But at least this resolved the drag/screeching problems. We continued on our way, and it looked like things were going to finally get back on-track.

WRONG!!! The temperature kept dropping, at times to 30-31 degrees, as we proceeded to encounter THE WORST winter storms I have ever driven in. Hills, hills, and more hills... all full of snow, sand, ice, crazy big-rigs, etc. We had to chain up. Although we were crawling along the highway at seemingly a snail's pace, we kept our sights on the end-goal (Tuesday's game!!! Just kidding). I'll be honest... it was scary. I was wide-awake from all the adrenaline rushes of the day's events, so my focus was totally on the road conditions. We filled-up the gas tank at Clinton, removed the chains (because the snowing had stopped), and then stopped at Cache Creek to eat at a 24-hour A&W restaurant.

From there, Mizzle took over driving for a couple of hours, to allow me some rest & recharge naptime, before I retook the position of driver for the remainder of the trip home. We stopped at a Tim Horton's restaurant in Abbotsford, but were too tired to eat the Timbits (yet). Thinking we were in the clear and the bad weather was behind us, Mother Nature decided to throw a mega-rainstorm onto I-5 between Marysville & Everett, causing vehicles to hydroplane in various places, just to keep us alert. We made it back home at 2:57 AM on Monday morning. "

Hockey Time!

Last night my Greater Seattle season started. This year I decided I needed to be on two teams, for the fun of it. Last night was the opening for both teams. The games were scheduled to be back to back at the same rink, which cuts down on the travel or something like that...

The first game did not go so well. I was playing on the Monarchs-8 which was a new team. We ended up losing 11-0...not fun. In our defense we played a team that was 2 or 3 skill levels higher than us...

The second game went quite a bit better, this time I was on The Mighty Boosh. We won the game 2-1, and the game was alot more fun. The sucky part about this is getting home at 11:30 when you have work at 5:30 the next morning...yikes. That and the hockey gear stinking up the car.

Car follow-up...her name is Lola

Apparently I am wierd for naming my car. I consider it good luck and named my hockey sticks for the same reason.

Brief recap- Tuesday night, picking up Flower after work, hoping to take her out to a movie or something. On the way home FPU [Female Parental Unit] wanted us to grab some supplies from the store. As we got off the freeway and stopped at a stopsign, the car sputters and dies. I say a few friendly 4 letterwords to it, starts back up, and head up the hill a little bit. Next stop sign, the car dies again and I hear a grinding noise. Not good. Safeway was about 500 feet down the road, traffic was a bit heavy. We barely make it to slaveway, car dies several times, grinding noise continues, people behind me get pissed off. We stop and make the call to my mechanic friend and mother letting them know whats up. After confering with the mechanic and determining towing it by car would be bad (axel would lock up, owning both cars), I call for a tow truck. Car is towed back to my house, it'll turn over, you just wont get far.

Estimate for repairs > $2000...its dead to me.

Wednesday: Wake up, start doing some research. Looking at a newish car, I am tired of the used junker car. Would like something semi-nice and reliable. Find work has a discount with Fords. Do a bit of research and find the Focus is the right price and what I need. I head onto Ford of Bellevue's website and find a nice 2008 for sale. I go down there and talk to someone who deals with MS Employees and get a decent deal for it. After taking a while to figure out the best financing its mine... (after a brief down payment snafu caused by the father figure).

I have been really impressed by the car so far. Its an odd feeling driving a car with no issues. It almost worries me with how well it all works, expect a shimmy or something. Its a base model, so not too much in the frills department, but that's all good with me. Heck the loan isn't even too bad, the insurance is what is killing me. That I am working on and shopping around for.

The old car is dead...working on getting a new one. More to come.

Mizzle Movie Reviews...House Bunny

Yes I saw House Bunny. There was a good reason, and no, its not that I think Anna Farris is attractive (cause she isn't, IMO). The movie was kinda a strange Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds love child, except alot cleaner..and pinker. Didn't really have any good moments, although I will now try to throw an 'Aztec Party' to mock Sizzle, but that's another story entirely.

The reason I saw the movie was that it was a chance for Flower's friends to meet me. Apparently I did pass the test and flower is good at getting out of speeding tickets. Wish I had that skill.

Gremlin, the Patron God of Traffic

Must have been angry this week, traffic has been brutal. Monday was a bit different, I had to drop the lady off at her house in Arlington and then go to work, which was about a 70 mile trip...youch. The last couple of days, my normal commute has been crap. Which in turn makes me feel like crap. Which in turn drops my call scores, but that's different.

Other than that, I have been good lately. Snowflake had me go on a blind date with a co-worker of hers...I will call her Flower [Names always changed to protect identities]. Been seeing her alot lately and its really fun. Also Silvertips season is starting. I have seen a few of there pre-season games and things look interesting. They will be rebuilding, but mediocre enough to make the playoffs, 4th in the division, 7th in conference is my guess.

This weekend, more hockey, work and people time. Should be alot of fun.

Super Tuesday!

I figured I will try some enthusiasm for today. This morning started off crappy when a majority of the things needed to do our jobs broke...company wide. That was a big bag of awesome. Other than that, the day has been progressing well. The first skirmishes of the LaunchPad Mizzle Nerf war were fought to a draw...there will be more to come on that front.

Other than that, same old same old for me. Silvertips have their annual pre-season hockey tournament this weekend. For a hockey nut like me, watching 3 games a day is awesome. Can't wait for it. Trying to drag some friends to it, as they like the hockey. Well, now I have to return the Job, customers are waiting...or as the propaganda posters say, ' Our customers satisfaction is on the line!'

Stress

Today started out sucky...read some bad news about the Bossman on his blog, work being busy, and some school issues lead to badtimes. Things got better, the day progressed, laughs were had.

Tomorrow should be a good day, we have our 'All Hands' meeting and the morale event. The meeting will something that I won't care too terribly much about. The morale event should be a blast, and it will be LaunchPad vs Mizzle for go-kart supremacy. You're going down LP...

Other than that, not too much is going on. Finished my summer classes, have a month before fall classes begin. I am going to try to get another computer cert, would look better on a performance review and stuff like that. At work we are getting study groups together since we do get free cert tests, might as well use them. In a couple weekends, Silvertips season will be starting up...should be fun to watch...Hockey is always good, even when they will be rebuilding next year.

Mizzle Movie Reviews...bring the Thunder...

Tropic Thunder that is. What an awesome movie. Great premise, group of actors filming a Vietnam War movie get involved in their own war. Some great gags including fake movie trailers and some great cameo appearences by well know actors. There was even a surprise casting which worked out well. Not gonna spoil it, but it really did work. I want to see this one again, anyone want to go?

Mizzle causes Deathstorms in Texas...

Cause I am super powerful like that? According Kristi down in Las Collinas, I like to cause deathstorms...and Sharepoint to break...but that's another story entirely.

Nothing much has been going on with me. I am done with Hockey for a couple of months, both Gatchateam and the Vandals have been knocked out of the playoffs. It was a good run for the Vandals...Gatchateam had a season to forget. Hopefully in the winter things work out differently. The high turnover really sucks and leads to 2-9-0-1 seasons.

Next Sat is my birthday. Should be goodtimes, making plans. I have the next day off thanks Princess Kitten swapping days with me. Should allow me to recuperate from any 'festivities'...

Another little annoyance at work...

In the spirit of Wiwille's post about 'reply to all' (Reply-all), I'd like to point out another annoying email habit of co-workers. There are a number of people that email our cellphone enthusiast list complaining that certain rival phones do not work with our email system or network due to security. These same people also complain that our phone discounts do not apply toward those phone products also.

Are they stupid? I have to side with Wiwille on this one, how do these people make so much more than me? Why would we support rival devices like that? Its nice when a director level person who was involved in the process tells them to STFU about it, but still, should they even be asking about why?

Mizzle Movie Reviews...Pineapple Express

Last night I saw the newest Seth Rogan comedy, Pineapple Express. I thought it was an good flick, had some good moments and some moments where it tried a little too hard. Decent story, involving corrupt cops and drug wars, with comedy and stereotypes. The acting was pretty good, James Franco plays a good stoner. One thing I didn't get was during the previews there was an ad for a really bad chick flick...most people in the theatre were confused about that. I would recommend seeing this one with some friends in theaters.

Something to rant about this morning...people that cut in the coffee line. What the hell? Is it that important for you to get your morning sludge?

How did I get so lame?

Talking to one person over the phone can upset me so much. Okay, maybe upset is the wrong word...unsettle? Just talking with her is fun, it's just afterwards I miss her...and want to be with her. It feels really odd. And it bugs the crap out of me.

The Dark Knight...

Last night I saw The Dark Knight. The movie had alot of buzz surrounding it, which it deserved. I really enjoyed the movie. The acting and story were superb. Heath Ledger gave the best performance on his life (pity it was his last). The story is quite a bit darker than the first, but it still has plenty of action. Only thing I can really comment on, is the fact you can really tell its Chicago and not Gotham. In Batman begins, I got the feeling it was Gotham, a unique city. This movie had the feeling of Chicago with alot of signs that said Gotham. The movie came was around 2 and a half hours, which is fine with me, it just leads to 3 hours of sleep for work the next day which is not fun. I would highly recommend seeing this and probably will see it again in theaters.

AT&T joys continue...

After some misleading paperwork, I do not get the $500 deposit back yet, I have to wait another year, which is totally stupid. This has been some seriously bad customer service, seems like they like annoying people Couple that with the recent FISA stuff, it's nice to know the Telco's (like AT&T) of the world are out to help us.

Done with that rant, things have been okay otherwise. I did check out the Rockstar Enegry Mayhem Festival last wednesday which was a blast. Disturbed had a great set, and Black Tide really impressed me. Other than that, its been the usual for me, eat, sleep, work, and hockey.

Mizzle Movie Reviews...Wanted

Wednesday night I saw 'Wanted' in Everett. The people watching was fun, and I was very impressed with this movie. It had a very original Matrix feel to it. Some really good action sequences and a good plot twist to the story. The acting and visuals were also well done, although beating up on the classic Mustang was a disappointment. That might be because of my love affair with them, but who knows. I would recommend people seeing this film.

Mizzle movie reviews...Innuendo edition...

So on Thursday night, I did finally see Hancock. I was supposed to see it opening night at midnight, but plans were changed last minute. It was a decent movie and I had to wait most of the movie to crack some joke about the title to my date. The movie had a good flow until about the last 25 minutes and then it just slowed and stopped. The climax was one that made me wonder...what? Seriously it was a strange climax, I thought more could have been done with movie...instead of that climax. But what do I know? I am just a snob with a blog.

Other than that stuff, I did spend some time out of town this weekend. For the 4th, I went with Dustin's family up to their campground near La Conner. The 4th was a blast and I have some burns to nurse from it. Tonight we might see Wanted, that is still up in the air. Sizzle is back in town, so it will be good to chill with him. Tomorrow I have work off for camping and a hockey game. Should be fun to watch Brie play beforehand.

Greetings from Pullman

I decided this would be a good weekend to take a vacation, so I have. I went over to visit some of my friends who are attending WSU summer classes. Its good times over here, reminds me of highschool and the funtimes that came with it (because it was sooo long ago).

Life has been the usual, having people come to me with their issues and I being various stages of annoyed by it. Its no biggie, I'll deal with it. If I think about their problems, mine don't bug me, so it works out better that way. No movie plans right now, I might do a wiwille like review of something that is already out, stay tuned. Something I might reccommend to people, is a show on Showtime called Dexter. Its a show about a guy who is serial killer and works in forensics with the Miami PD. Intersting stuff.

Hockey Hangover

So this weekend I played in the annual 'Stacked Deck Hockey Tournament'. It was a blast. The players are a group of us that have a weekly drop in and do various exhibition games. This year I was on the Diamonds. We did finish 4th sadly, but it was still alot of fun. I did enjoy getting the game winning shootout goal in game 3 and being the first star for it. Kudos to Steve Day for getting this all organized (and keeping the supply of pizza and beverages).

However like any other stretch of 4 games in two days, there is some good ole fashoned soreness. Add in some late night Halo/Rockband with Sweezea for the last couple of nights, coffee is my friend today. Its all good though, I can't wait for it next year. Later today I have my regular game against HES North...we might actually win this one...

Mizzle Hardware reviews...BJ II edition

After a bit of a Customer service nightmare with AT&T, I received a new phone from them. The process started with me trying to get the work discounted applied to my phone, and I had to branch off my old contract and pay a sucky deposit. After that I waited a few bills and tried to get on the the 'company owned phone discount'. I was referred by our somewhat helpful rep at work to go into a store, after some run around between stores, internal emails and phone numbers I got it sorted. In the process, my BlackJack phone was determined to be in need of an upgrade. I wasn't gonna argue, and got the BlackJack II.

The BlackJack II in impressive, it has some tweaks to the OS which make things easier (compared to WM6 on the BlackJack which at times was a nightmare). Overall its looks more shiny, which is a pro and con. It does look nicer, but its now a fingerprint magnet. Also the keyboard layout has been redone, but it looks like it for the better. The phone itself is quicker, due to the double memory and faster processor. The battery life on it seems to have improved as well, the BlackJack needed a 'bigger' and 'smaller' battery, the BJ II battery outlasts the 'bigger' on thus far. Signal also seems to be better at work, but my cube overall still is a dead spot. Or it could be Wiwille sapping the signal, I will never know

I would recommend this phone to anyone looking for a smartphone, but still wants something simple. And if you don't feel like becoming an iTool.

No Hulk smash

Didn't see 'The Hulk', plans fell through. Hopefully I can work something out to see it soon. I played quite a bit of GTA IV instead, still haven't beaten it yet. Yesterday I went whitewater river rafting on the Methow river. It was a blast, I had a lot of fun. The sunburn on my face and arms, not so fun.

Midnight Movies...Episode 4...Hulk Smash?

So this week's midnight movie is 'The Incredible Hulk'. Expectations for this one are low as the first Hulk movie sucked. It was fall asleep in the theatre bad. Although this looks like an improvement with Edward Norton and Tim Roth. Two very good actors, in my opinion. Afterwards, I will probably play Rockband all night...sounds like a good night to me.

Mizzle Movie Reviews...mess with the Zohan edition

So Friday night I saw Dont mess with the Zohan...its safe to safe you can mess with him. It was an extrememly dissapointing movie. It was kinda like Click, good start, bad from middle on. The first 30-45 minutes were good, but then it became the same repetitive jokes over and over. It just lost all momentum and become a childish slapstick movie. Normally I like those types of movies, but this one, not so much. My thoughts were shared by most of the other movie-goers in our group. On a side note, definetly going to Alderwood more, less creepy creepy people with swords.

I guess some frown upon asking a girl to dinner...who you just rear-ended. She politely declined due to a boyfriend. We were both okay...my car needs to have it's hood...adjusted. More reasons to hate the rain.

Mizzle Movie Reviews...creepy people outside edition

Last night I did a rare thing, not see a movie at midnight, only at 10:00. I saw 'The Strangers', a horror movie about a couple being tormented by a gang of people while at a romantic retreat. Overall it wasn't bad. Had some decent shock value, which had people behind me screaming. It scared Sweezea a bit (which she won't admit) as well. The one hang up I had was they set it up for a sequel. I am getting annoyed with the movie trend of most ending with things setting it up for a sequel. But that's just me. I would recommend people seeing it, a decent scare for all.

The Democratic Race...(semi-short rant)

Hillary needs to give up. This constant bickering that she will get the nomination is pointless. All it will do is splinter the party which will hurt their chances to get to the white house. Although it does show some flaws in the system, the fact that these so called 'Super Delegates' can vote for whoever and it is not based upon the people is a joke. Isn't democracy all about power to the people? Or is it power to whiners?

'You parked next to the idiots with the Swords...'

Only in Everett do you see people running around a parking lot with Katanas...or people stealing the cardboad 'Wall-e' display...(I am looking at you Sizzle). Its been a slow week over here. Didn't do much for the Holiday weekend, SkiDragon was in town and it was fun hanging out with him. Other than that, dealing with some issues with 'Tree', but hopefully things will work out. Looks like no midnight movie this week, nothing good is coming out. Not even something I would go to on a date...

Summer league has started for Hockey and so far we are 0-2...yikes. I did actually score a goal last night, which is a rare thing. Maybe I will actually get on the scoresheet this year. Who knows. Anyway, got to get back to work, I can't blog all day like somepeople...

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Well thats the end of that...

Indiana Jones returned...

Last night I did see Indiana Jones. Overall I thought it was good, for the first half or so but the end didn't fit the movie or the Indiana Jones universe. During the movie, the action was a bit more cartoon-ish than normal, but that was not a bad thing. The ending just left you going 'What?'. I felt like it had a bit of an X-files/Close encounters of the third kind feel to it. Others that went with me shared the same feeling. Harrison Ford did a good job, he seemed aged, but still could pull off the action sequences. Pity there was no Sean Connery cameo.

Midnight Movies...Episode 3...Revenge of the Fedora?

Yep tonight, Indian Jones returns to the big screen. I will be there with the usual movie crew, hopefully it lives up to its high expecatations. We were going to see it at the Drive In (Yes, there is one still around). Should be funtimes, catching dinner with 'Tree' beforehand. I know of a nice little Sushi spot in Everett.

Holy cryptic messages batman!

I love people. I do love when two very good friends are fighting about something but won't tell you a damn thing. I also love when you get the message to 'To back off'...about what, who knows. She told me that out of the blue, and she was in tears when she said it...(For those of you keeping score, like princess kitten, hyper chick said that). Argh, this is when people can be annoying...

And now for something un-expected!

Narnia II recap

So I did see Narnia II last night. All I can say is confusion and softcore Lord Of The Rings. I hadn't seen the first one which cause the confusion. That was okay, 'Tree' hadn't seen it either, so we were both equally confused. Otherwise the movie seemed like a simplified and Disney-ified Lord Of The Rings. Overall it was okay, a rental for those of you on the fence about it.

Midnight Movies...Episode 2

Since summer is nearly here, that means Hollywood is starting to release some good films. As usual my friends like to see these films at midnight. They must think seeing movies at normal people times, or the after-dinner-on-a-date time is lame. Or better yet, not really have anything better to do at night. But I digress, its a good movie crew, varied opinions...maybe I should have the rest guest blog about the movie...

So the second midnight movie in this summer season ( Speed Racer was the first ), will be the Chronicles of Narnia II. Yes, thats how excited I am for the movie, I don't even know the full name (Nor did I see the first). I'll post a full review/recap/rant depending on how it is. I knew having Fridays off would be good, I can do stuff like this...or start a Thursday night party trend...

SIDE NOTE: Blogger fixing my poor HTML skills good :)

Go Speed Racer?

Since alot of people seem to weighing in on this movie, I'll give my take. I thought it was good. I judge movies on a 'look at my watch scale', meaning whether it entertained me. Speed Racer had a typical story, with the usual plot points, but it was still fun. The visuals were impressive. Some call them meant for a 5 year old, but remember, it was based off a cartoon. It gave it a certain atmosphere. I would recommend seeing it, but I guess I am in the minority on that one.

After the movie, was fun. Got to hang out and play Guitar Hero till 4AM...always good times. The rest of the weekend was uneventful. Mother's day I worked, and my parents did something. So today I took my mom out for lunch. Other than that, not too much exciting happened in Mike land.

The Sunday - Thursday diet

That’s my new work schedule...unlike most of my friends, it does not change. Just another day at the office around here. It feels odd to 'Sleep in'. Most of the time when I have worked, it’s been start at 6 or 8AM. The fact that I sleep in till 8AM just feels odd to me. I'll get used to it. Just means I stay out later the night before. Although the lunch at 1PM will take some getting used to...

Outside of work, things have been interesting as usual. I did take some advice from readers like Princess Kitten and Mattbear (I also will be spellchecking this one...) and not really talking to one of the girls. As a result, some random girl off MySpace really is into me. Epic confusion to follow...she seems a bit...odd.

Well I hear the phones ringing again, and its near lunch time...I have a feeling I got a long call coming up before lunch...

Spam!

The title is a continuation from an email thread today. The post however is about Grand Theft Auto IV. I had it pre-ordered and picked it up yesterday. The game is amazing...(see: The OMG THIS GAME IS AMAZING type of reviews ). I am really impressed with this game. The graphics and the little refinements are great additions. I havn't played through too much of it, but when I finish it, I will post a longer review.

In other news things are good with me. Finally got the 'training wheels' taken off at work and am on my own in our phone queue. It should be goodtimes, I work with a good group of people.

Intresting weekend...

I have been playing wingman all weekend...its been interesting. Two friends really are into each other but don't want to date right now. Next best thing? Friends with benefits...part of the problem is the guy is kinda nervous about it. I have spent most of the weekend convincing him that he needs to see this girl because she is really into him and bored. So basically, I spent several text messages convincing him to see her and from what I can tell things worked out. They right now are with each other doing who knows what. Go him.

Now the other interesting part for me is chilling with a certain girl. Me and her could be easily described as complicated. We were in to each other, depends on the day whether I still am with her right now. Were are still very close, chat alot (See: my facebook wall...) I came over to her house for dinner tonight. I know her parents quite well, we have mutual friends and have gone on trips with them. Dinner was good, afterwards watching the hockey games on tv while the girl and her 'snowflake' boyfriend did their own thing. (Snowflake is not my term, but it does work).

Later the girl left to take the boy home. As soon as she left, her mom was talking to me about how much the girl likes me. And how much her parents think I would be a good guy for her and don't see why she is with me. This was a 10 minute long thing which was rather humbling. They admit the snowflake is a nice guy, but going nowhere and not really right for her. They went on how I was right for her and there was some kind of connection. Either that I just listen to the girl for some odd reason. I don't really pass judgment on the guy, he is pretty cool and the girl is into him. Her parents do confirm what the male friend from the above story keeps telling me, that she is into me, quite a bit from what I hear. I just don't know about the whole thing, I would like to say she can't be that into me if she is with the other guy, although they haven't been together long at all. I guess I will have to see what happens. I have been the goto guy for her in the past. That is where the frustration comes from. I kinda get put on the spot for stuff by here and it doesn't seem to guy both ways. I guess I will have to see how it plays out. Who knows what could happen

Well thats been my weekend. There was also saving a couple of idiots from getting their butts kicked at Snoqualmie pass at 2AM...but that didn't bug me too much.

Epensive day...

Started off well. Got pulled over...d'oh! Last time I try to get to work on time. The other thing was getting my cellphone sorted out. I needed to be on a plan free from the family. ATT decieded they needed some money. My wallet got lighter. Oh well, hopefully I can get the discounts setup correctly..the phone CSR sucked...royally. As in, you only can get the most expensive data plans... I am taking a trip to the ATT store in a few days to fix that.

Last time I try that...

I learned something last night. Certain things are not for me. Doing a couple shots of an adult beverage after I was nice and smashed...not good. Oh well, kudos to the host for the party. It was good times, met some people and was was annoyed as usual by some (See: girl who makes me the goto guy). All in all a good weekend, 3 parties in 2 days. Although one was not a drinking party, it was a PS3 party. Sucky part about all this? The neighbor with the weed-whacker. I can tell this is gonna be a fun day.

Things that annoy me, Part 1

I have a feeling this will turn into a multipost rant. Anwyay something that has gotten on my nerves lately is being the 'goto guy' as Princess Kitten calls it. The people, mostly girls, who only talk to you when they have a problem. And then calling you repeatedly about said problem. I have no problem listening to you. It's just when the only reason you talk to or see me is to talk about problems, something is wrong there. There are times where I want to hang out, not just listen to you tell me your problems. It goes both ways, I am sure you don't want to deal with my issues. And 'taking' me shopping is not a way to make up for it. I follow the normal guy shopping trend of get in, get out, and do it cheap.

The other thing on the list right now which is semi-related, is people who only talk to/txt me when they need something. Whether it be money or a ride somewhere. Later I try to hang out, they are too busy. But remember I am not too busy to give them that ride. Go figure. That ends my slightly selfish rant, go back to your normal lives.

"They're like Milkbones, without the after taste!'

Oh when my Dad gets bored and hungry, bad things happen. He was giving some dogtreats to the dogs and decided he needed one. Not my idea of normal. Then he was raving about how they were 'Damn good'. Oh the exciting things that happen on days off....

April fools?

I like to think I could pull a couple of April fools jokes a year. If you disagree with that, poo poo on you. Anwyay, I did pull a couple off yesterday, however one wasn't taken so well. Little wonder why really don't talk to her. Ish happens.

The video I posted yesterday was a gag, I think my favorite one from yesterday, a few others:

--Digg.com changing the 'dugg' icon showing odd characters
--uk.youtube.com 'Rick rolling' (Changing all feature videos to this one...)
-- Gmail allowing you to customize the time your email was sent from
-- Microsoft and Yahoo agreeing on a Buyout price

Another good one was the internal website 'WTF' edition. Anyone do any good pranks?

This caught my fancy. I loved Assassin's Creed, and can't wait for Metal Gear Solid 4.

No more Silvertips

Well last night the Silvertips were swept out of the playoffs. Not much of a surprise, a really streaky team. A really uneventful week, mostly just going to and from work, still in training. I will be going to some other team Hockey games coming up in the next week. I also have my playoff game on Sunday against the Puck'n Monkeys. Should be a good game.

IE 8 vs Firefox 3, battle of the BETA's...

So I am testing out the newest version of Internet Explorer and Firefox. I was using IE up until Firefox 1.0 came out. Firefox had several 'big' features. Notably tabbed browsing and extensions. Microsoft had been stagnant with IE since the release of Windows XP and really had not added anything new to it for years. Microsoft later put of IE 7 which added tabs and all sorts of security fixes, and a general new look, after firefox caused a bit of a stir (See: competition causes innovation). IE 8 is supposed to be their attempt to make it webstandards compliant, IE has been know to be lacking there. That sounds good sure, but I don't code enough HTML to have it be a deal breaker. Nor do I care about whiney webmasters.

One thing I hate about Firefox is its extreme memory usage, you browse for an hour and it eats everything up and becomes unstable. It also seems to need to update every two weeks, sometimes axing my bookmarks. This firefox beta seems to have fixed most of that issue, but a couple of extensions I use are currently unstable ( IE Tab and STOP Hammer time , don't ask). On the flipside, this IE 8 beta is also really slow and most sites do not render properly which should be fixed in time, but for the time being its a pain in the ass. Also IE does not have an Adblock Plus equivalent to it, which is one of things you miss after you have it.

At this point its a toss up to who I will stick with in the future, right now I am annoyed. Whats a nerd to do?

Is this still on?

Wow long time no post. Is it a bad thing I forgot this existed? Well alot has happened since last time I posted, so a quick recap. I got a contract as a CritSit Admin, lost the job in the usual contractor fashion, had a couple month of Vacation/Referee time, and got hired full time back at the same company, different but similar gig and got a decent raise. Who says contractors make more than FTE's?

On the more personal side, been playing Hockey when I can, and refereeing. Also been trying to hang out with the friends. Took a trip to Canada last weekend, have pictures, but certain people would not like them on the internet. Pity. Here's a rather embarassing one of Sean...

That was all him, we didn't force him.

Still fun, now I need to hit the sack, I have orientation tomorrow. Should be fun, will be stopping at the Employee store to get some goodies.
